A few months ago, I was approached by the Think Tank team if I wanted to help develop their new curriculum focusing on a Intro to Substance Designer. The first two lessons of the course focused on a clear and simple introduction to the User Interface focusing on what each panel and property does. How the node workflow works and its benefits in comparison to Substance Painter. Followed by this we looked at a core set of library nodes they will encounter when using Substance Designer, how and when to use them.
Next I created 3 materials to showcase an example workflow developing industry ready materials, how to research good references, and breaking them down. Next I focused on the importance of the height map why it should be the first texture to be worked on. Afterwards we looked at the rest of the other maps converting to our normal, ambient occlusion, base colour and roughness.
The materials for this course were a sandstone wall, a sand surface blended with eroded rocks and a trim surface.
Huge thanks to the team for offering me this opportunity.
